Dr. Eichberg is Director of Strategic Alliances at Merck Research Laboratories, where he oversees research and development collaborations in multiple therapeutic areas, including relationships with the U.S. government and government and academic researchers in the development of rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP (V920), a live, attenuated viral vaccine against the Ebola virus. He is also exploring additional opportunities to expand Merck’s involvement in public-private partnerships. Prior to joining Merck, Dr. Eichberg was head of Alliance Management at Achaogen, Inc., a biopharmaceutical firm with extensive U.S. government collaborations focused on novel antibiotic development. He has also served as the Executive Director of the Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases (CEND) at the University of California, Berkeley, an academic center dedicated to promoting awareness, education, and research in infectious diseases, particularly those affecting poorer populations around the world. He has served as a professional staff member in the U.S House of Representatives and as a legislative liaison and policy analyst with the American Chemical Society. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.A. from Cornell University.
